a portrait of you

lyrics

this time i used
the bark of the alder tree
that can't grow as tall as
the red one more often seen

this time i used
the juice of a nettle leaf
its tiny hairs as needles
injecting my touch with a sting

i used to paint you
green
cause it lasted longer
than pink
which fades inevitably
and realistically

i used to paint you
green
cause it lasted longer
but it
contained too many things
that were toxic to me

this time i used
the flowerless fern
as it rid the air of
poison with seedless spurn
